History of Navratri

Navratri is a very important Hindu festival celebration in india, which is devoted to goddess durga. The festival is celebrated with great reverence and faith across the country. It stretches over a period of nine days, with each of the nine days being dedicated to one of the nine forms of the goddess. In different parts of India, different legends describe the history of Navratri.

North India

The Legend in North India goes that Mahishasura, the mighty demon worshipped lord shiva and obtained the power of eternity . Soon, he Started killing and harassing innocent people and set out to win all the three lokas. The gods in swargaloka appealed to Lord shiva, to find a way to get rid of the demon. To protect the world from the atrocities of mahishasura, the Trinity of Brahm, Vishnu and Shiva united their powers and created a divine female warrior, Known as Goddess Durga. Mahishasura, when he saw the divine beauty of Goddess Durg, got mesmerized.

So fascinated was Mahishasura by Goddess Durga’s beauty that he approached her with the intention of marriage. The goddess agreed to marry him, but put forth a condition Mahishasura would have to win over her in a battle. Mahishasura, proud as he was agreed immediately! The battle continued for 9 night and at the end of the ninth night, Goddess Durga beheaded Mahishasura. The nine nights came to be knows as Navratri, while the tenth day was called Vijayasashmi, the tenth day that brought the triumph of good over evil.

Another Legend Ram and Ravana

Yet another legend of Navratri relates to the Hindu epic Ramayana. It goes that lord Rama worshipped Goddess Durga in nine aspects, for nine days, in order to gather the gather the strength and power to kill Ravana. He Wanted to release sita from the clutches of powerful demon king Ravana, who had abducter her. Those nine nights became to be known as Navratri and the tenth day. On which Lord Rama killed Ravana, came to be called Vijayadashmi or Dusshera, signifying Rama’s triumph over Ravana.

Goddess Shailputri

After the self immolationas goddess sati.  Goddess parvati took birth as the daughter of goddess lord himalaya. In sanskrit shail means the mountains and due to which goddess was knows as shailputri the daughter of the mountain.

Goddess  shailputri is worshipped on the first day of navratri. 

It is believed that the moon the provider of all fortunes is governed by goddess shaiputri and any bad effect of the moon can be over come by worshipping this form of adishakti.

The mount of goddess shailputri is bull and because of that she is also knows as varisharudha.  Goddess  shailputri is depicted with two hands. She carries trishul in the right hand and the lotus flower in the left hand. she is also knows hemavati  and parvati due to her  importance among all nine forms goddess shailputri is worshipped on the first day of navratri similar to her previous birth as goddess sati goddess shailputri  got married to lord shiva.

माता शैलपुत्री

माता शैलपुत्री 

माँ दुर्गा अपने प्रथम स्वरुप में शैलपुत्री के रूप में जानी जाती है. पर्वतराज हिमालय के घर जन्म लेने के कारण इन्हे शैल पुत्री कहा गया. भगवती का वाहन बैल है. इनके दाहिने हाथ में त्रिशूल और बाए हाथ में कमल का पुष्प है. अपने पूर्व जन्म में ये सती नाम से प्रजापति दक्ष की पुत्री थी. इनका विवाह भगवन शंकर से हुआ था. पूर्वजन्म की भाति इस जन्म में भी यह भगवन शंकर की अर्द्धांगिनी बनीं। नव दुर्गाओं में शैलपुत्री दुर्गा का महत्त्व और शक्तियाँ अनन्त है. नवरात्रे-पूजन में प्रथम दिवस इन्ही की पूजा व उपासन की है. सभी मनोकामनाओं को पूर्ण करने के लिए नवरात्र के पावन पर्व में पूजा जाने वाली नौ दुर्गाओं में सर्व प्रथम भगवती शैलपुत्री का नाम आता है. पर्व के पहले दिन बैल पर सवार भगवती माँ के पूजन-अर्चना का विधान है. माँ के दाहिने हाथ में कमल पुष्प सुशोभित है. अपने पूर्वजन्म में ये दक्ष प्रजापति की कन्या के रूप में पैदा हुई थी. उस समय इनका नाम सती रखा गया. इनका विवाह शंकर जी से हुआ था. शैलपुत्री देवी समस्त शक्तियों की स्वामिनी है. योगी और साधकजन नवरात्र के पहले दिन मन को मूलाधार चक्र में स्थित करते है और योग साधना का यहीं से प्रारंभ होना कहा गया है...

माता शैलपुत्री

माता शैलपुत्री 

 मां दुर्गाचा पहिला स्वरूप शैलपुत्री आहे. पर्वतराज हिमालयच्या मातेचा जन्म झाला म्हणून मातेला शैलपुत्री मानतात. भगवतीचा वाहन बैल आहे. तिचे उजव्या हातात त्रिशूल आणि डाव्या हातात कलम आहे. पूर्वजन्मी यांचा नाव सती होते ती प्रजापती दक्षची पुत्री होती. यांचा लग्न महादेव शंकर सोबत झाला. आणि नवरात्रीच्या पहिले दिवस माता शैलपुत्रीची पूजा केली जाते.

METHOD OF GHATSTHAPANA

Ghatsthapan is one of the signification rituals during Navratri.it marks the beginning of nine days festivity. Our scriptures have well defind rules & guideline to perform Ghatsthapana during a certain periond of time at the beginning of navratri. Ghatsthapana is invocation of Goddess Shakti and doind it wrong time as our scriptures forewarn, might bring wrath of the goddess shakti. Ghatstapana is prohibited during Amavasya and night time.

The most auspicious or shubh time to do ghatasthapana is first one thrid of the day while Pratipada is prevailing. If due to some reasons this time is not available then ghatsthapana can be done during. It is advised to avoid nakashatra chitra and vaidhriti yoga during ghatsthapana but those are not prohibited. The most important factor to consider is that ghatsthapana is done before Hindu midday while Pratipada is prevailing.

           हिन्दू मान्यतानुसार माँ भगवती संपूर्ण संसार की शक्ति की स्त्रोत है आश्विन मास प्रतिपदा तिथि से नवरात्र व्रत किये जाते है. नवरात्र का आरंभ प्रतिप्रदा तिथि को घटस्थापना से किया जाता है.

           घटस्थापना विधि:- श्री भगवती के अनुसार नवरात्र व्रत की शरुवात प्रतिप्रदा तिथि को घट या कलश स्थापना से की जानी चाहिए कलश को गंगा जल से भरना चाहिए और उसमें पांच आम के पत्ते डालने चाहिए। पहले दिन अच्छे विधि से किया हुआ पूजा मनुष्यों की अभिलावा पूर्ण करने वाला होता है.

हिंदू मान्यतेनुसार आश्विन प्रतीपदेस घाटस्थापनेला सुरवात होते महेती भागवत प्रमाणे ही तिथी मानली जाते. मातीचा पहाड करून त्यावर गहूपेरल जात व पाण्याचा कलश ठेवला जातो. आंब्याची पाच पान ठेवून वर दिवा लावला जातो. धान्याने कलश सजविला जातो. विधी पूर्वक केलेळी हि पूजा मनुष्याची इच्छा पूर्ण करणारी असते. माता दुर्गाची नउ रूप आहे.
